knattra 2018 mini-hackathon.
build your very own API-roller coaster, a digital rube goldberg machine.
The longer the chain of API’s, the more pointless, and the more creative → the better!
You start by pushing a button, and accessing an API to hit the gong! - What happens in between is up to you!
Perhaps… when pushing the button, an email is sent, which activates a LED on a Raspberry Pi, which turns on a specific song on spotify, which tweets your instagram photo, which shows a Chuck Norris gif, which starts a conversation between Google Home and Alexa, and finally... hits the gong!
By using IFTTT, you and your team decides just how technical and creative you want to get. Either you use the out-of-the-box services available on IFTTT, or you construct your own ones.
So get together with some friends and enter your team (max of 3 in each team)!
Great prizes and glory for the winners!

Q: What is the point of the event?
A: We want to show you how cool Jayway is; we do cool things and have fun!
Q: Is it a competition?
A: It is a competition, for those of you that want it to be!
The winning categories are:
Most Points: The solution using the most API’s in their API chain.
The Jury’s vote: Some Jaywayers will cast their vote on the solution which they find the most creative
The Random API: One of the API’s is loaded with the possibility of winning an extra prize!
Q: Do I need to bring anything?
A: Bring your laptop!
Q: Can I prepare anything in advance?
A: If you like being prepared, you can visit IFTTT’s website and be inspired! And you can start thinking about what your chain is going to be like.
Q: Will there be food?
A: Breakfast and lunch will be served, and there will be snacks available during the day. Make sure to let us know if you have any allergies or food preferences when you sign up!
Q: Can I stay and talk to Jaywayers afterwards?
A: Have a beer with us after, and stay as long as you like!
Q: Do I have to be really good at programming to join this event?
A: No! Since we will be using IFTTT, your team can decide just how technical you want to get. There are already a lot of out-of-the-box services in IFTTT that makes it easy to be creative.
Q: I am a designer, is this event for me?
A: Yes, you are more than welcome! At Jayway we mix technology with design, and as a designer you will help your team come up with a creative API chain. A planned, designed, but not yet implemented solution, will also be valid for some of the competitions categories.
Q: Will I get any help?
A: The goal of this event is to have fun, and learn something new. Therefore there will be a number of Jaywayers at the event that you can ask questions to.
Q: How big are the teams?
A: You can register as a team or by yourself, and each team can be a maximum of 3 people. If you register by yourself we will set you up with other teams.
Q: What is the point of the challenge?
A: Build the longest (and most pointless?) chain of API’s that you can think of, that finally hits the gong! The more API’s, and the more creative, the better! All the teams will start with a push of the button, and end with hitting the gong. What happens in between is up to you!
