Rodents! It was because of them we got our first computer. My dad was a professor at the department for Animal physiology at Lund university and experimented on rodents. He ordered two Apple II computers from the U.S. in order to make calculations and one ended up in our home. Graphics was my main interest and when I was fifteen I bought my first computer. I got an inheritance and blew it all on a machine with the capacity of an average smartphone.
THE RAMBO GAMES EXPERIENCE
Experience is what really teaches me. I never warmed to the pedagogics in high school, stuffing kids with facts simply wasn't for me. Consequently, I dropped out and went to work at a pet store. Eventually I got my diploma and a master's degree in computer science which included courses in chinese history and astronomy. After graduation me and some friends travelled to China. When I came home, I didn't have a job, any money, or a place to live. I was forced to become an entrepreneur, ordering chips for X-boxes from Rambo games in China. They turned out to be pretty good business.
A GOLDEN GEKKO IN PHNOM PENH
My first real job was as a teacher at Tactel, from there I moved on to work as a developer at Purple Scout. When the recess hit however, I was made redundant. By then I had a girlfriend who was a post grad from Kazakhstan. Since we had money and free time, we decided to get married and on our honeymoon I hooked up with my next job. Golden Gekko had an opening as an Android developer. "Great UX and graphics!", was my thought. I took for granted that the job was at their offices in Barcelona but it turned out to be in Phnom Penh. My wife and I lived there for a year splitting our time between the russian contingency and the expats.
DÜSSELDORF, KAZAKHSTAN AND THE LOCAL GOOGLE
Well back in Europe my wife got a position in Bath while I commuted to Düsseldorf. Now we were ready for a house and children and decided to move back to Sweden. I've always considered Jayway as something like a local Google, and personally I'm looking forward to them directing themselves more towards providing full-scale solutions. Even if me and my wife have settled here, our travelling days certainly aren't over.
