Client

KF Media, one of Sweden’s major actors on the publishing market. Among other things they are owners of national bookstore chain Akademibokhandeln and online book retailer Bokus as well as of publishers like Norsteds and Rabén & Sjögren. Approximately 25 % of the books in Sweden are sold through KF Media’s channels.

Background

Jayway have an ongoing business relationship with Swedish online book retailer Bokus which is part of the KF Media conglomerate.Together we analyzed the development of the publishing market on the web and created the eBook application eBokus. Our project was deemed such a success that the whole corporation decided to launch a common solution and create a new brand for their eBook sales. The overriding goal was to increase the corporation’s share of the growing eBook market.

Our solution

The Gothenburg Book Fair, the largest meeting for the book trade in Scandinavia, was early on targeted as the ideal time to launch the store. This however meant that the time for the project would only be three months. Our project was also complicated by the fact that a lot of the branding and concept development was executed along the way. We worked closely with KF Media and the design team throughout the process. By using Agile development we maintained a flexible approach and were able to make alterations without increasing the time to market. Where the eBokus application had carried 4000 titles, Dito contains more than 150000 titles from various distributors. Creating a solution that would enable all users to disregard the matter of different kinds of DRM-protection was a cumbersome but necessary task to make our solution a One-Stop shop.
