Running for ten hours at a stretch, it would be fair to say that Pär is a man of extremes and high standards. Often found padding through the Malmö office in his socks, such intense physical activity may also contribute to his calm and self-possessed demeanor. “When I run, or bike or swim- it’s when I create and problem solve. Without trying- it just happens. and I sleep like a child.” he remarks in a soft baritone. It started a few years ago, when a new colleague asked if Pär would team up with him to participate in an upcoming triathlon. Acquiescing to the request, he’s been hooked forever since. The Ironman competition has seen him log a few miles. “One of my favorite weeks of the year is when myself and three friends pack our bikes and wet suits and set off to train in Mallorca. The terrain is savage and lush, it’s beautiful.”
Lured by the intensive and ongoing competence development that is integral to the structure of Jayway, he joined the team in 2011. For Pär, this dedication sets Jayway above and beyond other companies. It’s understandable, given that Pär is a well known speaker and presenter specializing in Java and Android at numerous conferences. Being recently crowned Java Rock Star in San Francisco last year, the prestigious honour is among a growing list of certifications and awards. His weapon of choice when speaking? Humour. And not being afraid to step away from the slides. “It’s Ok to do things differently, to find your own way of expression.”
After giving talks and workshops on numerous occasions at Øredev, this year Pär takes on another role, having been asked to be on the Program Committee of the software developers conference. Readily accepting, he looks forward to helping shape the content and change things. “Rebellion’s hot.”
